Making our roads safer for cars, bike and pedestrians was one of my campaign promises and we are making tediously slow progress, albeit in a forward direction on this goal. This week, I was thrilled to see on our agenda an item recommended by our mobility expert, Dan Burden, that we adopt the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) street and bikeway design as guides. We approved it unanimously.

What is even better is that there will be a tailored training specifically for Encinitas on how to possibly implement these guidelines. In addition to staff, Council unanimously approved the Deputy Mayor's suggestion to extend the training invitation to the the Traffic and Public Safety Commission.

Through this training, if any conflict with our existing codes/guidelines emerges, staff will return to Council with recommendations. Hopefully, this will make moving forward on the number of other mobility projects easier and more routine.
